As my husband and I were out today for a walk, a glorious
walk in sunshine and a gentle spring breeze, I felt so alive. While we covered
the blocks, I recalled a time in my life, a few years ago, when things were
bleak. Everything had lost its zip. I seemed to be walking in a gray zone. My
heart was broken over some things that God was not fixing fast enough. Fast enough? There were days I didn’t think he was doing
anything at all.
Could I just be somewhere else, I thought, musing about
Heaven, where everything is perfect all the time. It seemed like I’d worn out
my usefulness here. What I had put my hands, heart, and feet into appeared to
be ashes, a waste of time, in spite of my best efforts, prayers, and passionate
commitment.
Although I thought God wasn’t paying very much attention to
my prayers, which I now don’t think was true, He was clearly paying attention
to me by not paying any attention to my longing for an escape to Heaven. He had
things for me to do—his Kingdom to pursue. Aren’t you glad when God doesn’t pay
attention to your bad ideas? I am!
There is so much God has let me be a part of since those
colorless days, exciting, marvelous activity He has invited me to be involved in,
indications of his presence and work. I was not done yet; neither was He.
Faithful Thoughts on the Christian Journey started for a very
different purpose than it has now. Originally I wanted the blog to be a
springboard for other writings. Now that idea is in the rearview mirror as of
long ago. What has emerged in this past year of blogging is sharing the walk of
faith and for no other reason than that—simply sharing the journey. Some people
think walking in Christ is easy—just obey. I’ve never found it that easy.
Wonderful? Yes. Easy? No. I think my readers might agree.
Faithful Thoughts has been one of those surprises God had in
store for me when things were gray. Other surprises about this venture have
been the posts that resonated with you, my readers. Here’s a list of the top
ten. Perhaps it will make you scratch your head or click the link to read what you
may have missed. With almost 1400 page views this year, I’m not a popular blog,
but for those of you who have visited and come back, thank you. I appreciate
your companionship and comments and hope you will journey on with me.
